We had a nice time and staff were all very friendly and helpful. A wedding in progress when we arrived. Nice to see but unfortunate that the wedding guest were sharing the same bar as hotel guests for quite some time. Disappointed to see so many of the chairs were tired looking, ripped or worn and lots of bits of paintwork chipped. An easy fix with a quick touch up. Otherwise an enjoyable break in a nice setting.

Had a lovely stay and spa. Really enjoyed our treatments and we were chosen for guest of the day and given some lovely extras! Very grateful. Our evening meal was exceptional as was the service. Breakfast was also lovely and a massive variety. Our room was beautiful my only issue was how hard the mattress was! Made sleeping uncomfortable but that was my preference. Can’t fault the hotel or staff Gorgous stay

Lovely staff and great facilities however the room can do with some maintenance and updating. Would definitively come back just for the treatment alone.

Slaley Hall was fantastic. The food was phenomenal, our room was superior and really comfortable, and the pool was great for relaxing. We’ll definitely stay again in the future.

Great food lovely sized bedrooms and very well equipped. A lovely birthday overnight stay with my daughter which included a spa break. Only complaint was dirty glass coffee tables in the little drinks room off the pub. The grounds were amazing had a lovely walk through.

We visited to celebrate my friends 21st birthday last weekend and had a fabulous time. The hall and grounds are stunning. The staff were very friendly too. We booked the overnight stay with a spa treatment, dinner and breakfast the next morning. We enjoyed a drink in the bar when we first arrived and then checked in to a lovely room which was very clean and spacious. We then headed to the spa area where we went for our massages. They were very accommodating as my friends is pregnant and were able to provide a pregnancy massage. However, we both did find both of our masseuses didn’t stop talking the whole 50 minutes of the treatment. Which is nice and friendly, but it’s not what you want during a relaxing massage. Unfortunately, I don’t think there was a minute of silence during my massage. The evening meal was lovely, we were both able to get £35 off our main meals each because of the package we booked, which is a great deal! The breakfast the next morning was also very nice. Overall, we had a lovely time and most importantly, my friend had a nice birthday. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone. It’s good value for money for what’s included.

We used booking. com and got a great 4 nights deal for my friends birthday celebrations, Unexpected surprise card , chocolates and birthday written on a plate in our room . Lovely touch. Staff were absolutely amazing , everyone happy helpful, and we're so friendly . Although lighting was on constant low due to finances of the company I'm presuming, we had an amazing time xx Company directors, do look after your wonderful staff they are thd best x every one from cleaners to management were 100% and could not help us enough. Amazing hotel with lovely staff. Food was delicious. Rooms nice and spa. Golf courses stunning. The downside, £100 deposit to pay on arrival which you get back on checkout. Still waiting on mine into 4th day.

We have been to Slaley hall several times, and return because it is great for families. This time we enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and our suite was very nice. Overall we like Slaley Hall a lot. The only disappointing aspect, which may prevent us from returning, is that the swimming pool times are now much more restricted for children than they used to be, with the majority of the day being adults only, presumably so the spa guests can have the run of it. It did seem quite underused / quiet in those times, and in the times when children could use it, very busy, because families are all restricted to the start and end of the day. As these times coincide with breakfast and dinner then it makes them even more pressured, which does make it far less of a family-friendly stay. We had to rush down for breakfast to have time to swim afterwards, and with two young children it’s quite stressful doing things so quickly. Obviously the spa guests prefer children to be absent and there’s a need for a balance but it felt like they were more prioritised than the families staying at the hotel. Other than the pool restrictions, it’s a lovely hotel with great staff and a nice atmosphere.

Absolutely love Slaley Hall. All the staff were amazing and more than helpful. Had a lovely overnight spa break with evening meal and breakfast included. Plenty of places to sit whether you wanted quiet or a bit more lively in the bar. I would highly recommend giving this place a try, I know i will be going again.

We enjoyed a comfortable stay in this lovely country house hotel while on a cycling holiday in County Durham and Northumberland. The hotel provided secure storage for our bikes. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed pre dinner drinks on the spacious terrace and a good breakfast the following morning. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and has a leisure complex where we enjoyed a swim after a long day’s cycling

Stayed on an all inclusive basis for a night for my wifes birthday. Managed to check in early, resulting in time to use the Spa before drinks and meal...which was beautiful too. Lovely surroundings too. Breakfast was beautiful too. Had no complaints whatsoever.

Just come back from a fabulous weekend away at Slayley hall and we had a fantastic experience throughout! Every member of staff were lovely, friendly, and helpful and always had a smile. A particular mention to Sophie who served our evening meal, a really lovely young lady , a credit to the hotel. All the food we had was really nice and tasty and we didn’t have any long waits. The room was very light and spacious with a huge comfortable bed. We used the spa and had two treatments each, which were just wonderful and the pool was lovely and quiet. We had a lovely walk in the extensive grounds, which are just stunning. Were the net curtains ripped, yes, were some of the chairs in need of replacing, yes, silly things that can easily be fixed to stop the moaning. But it didn’t detract one moment from a very lovely birthday weekend at exceptional value. Best tip is to keep an eye open on Wowcher we got an amazing deal! Thank you Salyley we will be back.

We enjoyed our stay at Slaley Hall. Our room was spacious, quiet and comfortable. Kate on Reception was welcoming and thorough and Lily who served us in the restaurant was excellent. The food was good and drinks were well priced. The young team managed a very busy breakfast service very well.

We had a fantastic stay at Slaley Hall. It’s a gorgeous hotel, with a beautiful building and stunning grounds — a really lovely setting for a relaxing break. The restaurant staff were brilliant, particularly Sophie and Josh, who were so friendly and welcoming. They were also fantastic with our one-year-old son, which made such a difference. We never felt out of place eating in the restaurant as a family, and it was lovely to feel so comfortable and well looked after. The pool facilities were also great and a real highlight for us as a family. Overall, a fantastic hotel that feels genuinely family-friendly without compromising on the quality or atmosphere. We’d definitely return and highly recommend it!

5 Guys stayed at Slayley Hall for a 2 night 2 rounds of golf Q Hotel Break. Initial Booking experience was excellent. During our stay all Staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. Overall we all thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The rooms were very nice and the following comments are meant as constructive criticism for consideration. Plenty of choice at Breakfast but the cooked food wasn’t very hot and a bit bland and tasteless. By and large the evening meals were very good but the battered fish was a bit soggy and didn’t seem fresh. Two very good and challenging golf courses but we were disappointed or unlucky that the greens in the Hunting Course had just been aerated and sanded when we played. It made putting difficult. Overall we all enjoyed the experience and would consider another visit in the future.

From the moment we arrived, the warmth and professionalism of the Slaley Hall Team shone through. Sianleigh welcomed us at Reception - without question Sianleigh is truly a wonderful ambassador for Slaley Hall. It is not simply the beautiful surroundings or facilities that make Slaley Hall awesome; it is the people and the way they make guests feel. The warmth, professionalism and genuine care shown bt the Team does not happen by accident - quite simply it speaks volumes about the culture at Slaley Hall and, ultimately, about the leadership which creates the standards, values and confidence that allow colleagues to deliver hospitality in this way. Great hotels may have impressive buildings and wonderful facilities, but it is great people, supported by great leadership, who turn a stay into something memorable. That is certainly our experience of Slaley Hall.

This was our first time at Slaley Hall and we absolutely loved it. The spa was amazing and we really enjoyed the bar so we could have a few drinks by the pool. It would be nice if there were more loungers around though as you had to wait for someone to leave. The rooms were spacious and clean. Very comfy bed and had a good night's sleep. Shower was hot with good water pressure. Would have been nice to have a smart TV but I know they are currently doing renovations to the hotel rooms. All the cleaners said good morning and were very lovely. Only downside was the service in the restaurant. The food was gorgeous but our drinks orders were wrong, I asked for chips instead of fries and I got fries, and our desserts took an hour to come out. We did get our dessert comped without asking or even complaining. The other issue is that we had drinks vouchers and the restaurant had not removed our drinks off the bill even when we pointed it out. They said they'd sort it but when checking out the drinks were still on the bill. It was still a lovely and relaxing stay and the staff fixed any issues that came up, but just mentioning as it's something to improve upon. Regardless it's still been one of my favourite spa breaks and I would 100% come back again

Fantastic experience overall. 19th Bar - staff were exceptional - Morgan, Eve and Lewis, to name a few - were all wonderful and really made our stay 10x better. They seemed criminally understaffed for the time of year and how many guests were about which was disappointing - constantly looking at dirty crockery/glasses on tables because they didn't have the staff - that's criticism for the management, NOT the staff. They were doing their absolute best and can't do 6 things at once (run food from the restaurant kitchen to the bar - that is madness btw, clear tables, serve customers, make drinks, keeping the bar setup and stocked, cleaning glasses/crockery etc etc etc) Spa and pool facilities - overall really good. Definitely needs TLC in the men's changing room and the tiling in the pool. Very happy with the restrictions on the times they allow kids in the pool. Big win for the management there. Other leisure facilities - Quite poor in all honesty - a tiny room with one table tennis table, one pool table, one dart board and a fruit machine. Pool table needs TLC, and new paddles for the table tennis wouldn't go amiss either. Couldn't even get chalk for the pool cues! Room - Standard double room, honestly quite nice. Overlooking the entrance and with blackout curtains. Bit disappointed with the shower but it's fine. My biggest gripe with the room came in the form of the Heating/Aircon system. Air-conditioning temp only goes as low as 18 degrees which is absolute madness in my opinion, and the temp on the panel almost never budged from the mid 20 degrees even at 11pm. Can only hope the suites have better, more efficient facilities. Hotel overall - Walking through the hotel, it's beautiful. It desperately needs some TLC in a lot of places - carpeting, tiling, facilities, systems, even the lift on the west side of the hotel - the inner panelling creaks and just looks tacky and the carpet is ridiculously worn - when I was alone, I just took the stairs. But you see why it's only a 4* hotel. Even the plants outside of the 19th Bar on the south side, were sparse and dying and it just smacks of mismanagement that they haven't projected a good summer to invest in the hotel. It is a beautiful venue but take care not to pay 5* prices for a hotel and spa that just about scrapes 4* for me. Food - on the whole, really good. On arrival we got sandwiches (served quite promtly might I add) while sitting at 19th bar. After, I wanted an affogato which I was told the kitchen was understaffed and the affogato took 15 minutes. 15 minutes for a scoop of ice cream and a shot of espresso. I was apologised to for it taking so long, but the contrast was real - sandwiches arrived quick, two step coffee arrived a week late. I didn't make comment because why do you want to start your stay with negativity? Hire or rota more staff! First night meal at the Brassierie - Meal was decent, Dauphinoise arrived burnt, and dry as a flip flop in the desert. Portion size of the meal was skirting "fine dining" - Remember this is a 4* hotel. Lamb was cooked to perfection however, and the pie was okay. Biggest disappointment to me was the side of Foccacia - probably the worst foccacia I've ever seen or ate, and it made me doubt if I wanted the New York foccacia that I had my eyes on for the next day. The focaccia portion was poor, it was abysmal, stale, no signature aeration in the bread, and tasteless - if it's fresh made on site, for god sake add flakes of salt and rosemary on the top at the VERY least. Luckily, the New Yorker the next day was fantastic (the coca bread was bland but more aerated at least) - maybe we got unlucky on the coca side at dinner on the first night. We booked an afternoon tea for our last day, and surprisingly it was discounted for afternoon tea week, score! £30pp instead of £40pp originally. I remember baulking at the price when I booked the stay because the pictures online looked really poor. Sadly, the afternoon tea was a big disappointment even for £30pp. Cakes were soggy and seem like they're bought in frozen - even the "macaron" looking thing - on sight it looks like a macaron but the soggy blob was poor and the filling poor. It looked like two red amaretti biscuits with a splodge in between but it was soggy like sponge. Vile. (Picture of the top layer of the Afternoon Tea included) Sandwiches were sparse, 2 tuna mayo fingers, 2 piccalilli and ham fingers, 2 onion chutney and cheese fingers and 2 egg mayo fingers. The piccalilli was the best and I don't like piccalilli. Scones were alright but for £60 for 2 people, that was an insult. Worse if you pay full price and get it for £80! Remember, you're at a 4* hotel! Breakfast - was alright you know. Continental options, juices, cereals etc, self serve hot stuff, not too shabby. Only feedback here is that maybe you should service your coffee machines because on both mornings multiple machines weren't working for whatever reason. Staff were nice and greeted with a lovely good morning and welcome to the table. The best take away for me is that 90% of the staff were wonderful. A few, around 10% were grumpy, unwelcoming and not willing to help, highlighted by one older lady in the spa flatout refusing a request for a sample of one of the Elemis products, despite a little plinth on the shelving saying "samples available, please ask". Luckily, another member of staff overheard and retrieved a little sample to try - if you're selling premium products with an average cost price of around £60, and you use them in the spa treatments, you better believe you should hold true on the tiny plinth that advertises a sample, otherwise I'll just take a punt online and buy them from boots which runs a discount. In the end, because of said lady, I didn't even try to redeem the vouchers we got from our treatments, £5 off a £40 spend or £10 from a £70 spend on products because no doubt she would've been difficult - i got that feeling from her. It's a shame really, but hey, it saved space in our travel case. We will be staying again, just tinged with sadness as the staff at the 19th Bar will probably be different and more than likely understaffed yet again.
