DISCOVER WHAT'S ON
Cragside House and Gardens (1 hour drive)Â
If the flowers are blooming, Cragside is always a must.  Â
A family favourite, Cragside House is a gorgeous location in springtime, with rhododendrons turning the estate into a magnificent array of colours. Take the kids on a walk or drive around the grounds to see Lord Armstrong’s innovative home at its most beautiful.  Â

Coquet Island (1 hour drive)Â
This one’s for the bird-lovers!  
A very sweet and truly unique sight – freshly hatched pufflings take over Coquet Island around this time of year. The clumsy little creatures are affectionately known as the ‘clowns of the sea’, so you’re bound to have a laugh if you go for a visit.  Â
Druridge Bay (1 hour drive)Â
Want to spend summer in nature?  Â
Rich in wildlife and a favourite among walkers, horse riders, cyclists, and watersports enthusiasts, Druridge Bay offers amazing outdoor experiences of all kinds. The summertime Druridge Festival is also worth attending if you enjoy live music and a pint!  Â

Housesteads Roman Fort (38 minute drive)Â
What is a summer holiday without a historical sighting?  Â
The Housesteads Roman Fort is an ancient structure surrounded by stunning views. The fortress is one of 16 permanent bases along Hadrian’s Wall and is the most complete example of a Roman fort in England. History buffs, this one’s definitely worth a visit.   Â
Northumberland Zoo (1 hour drive)
Meet ring-tailed lemurs, snow leopards and more.  
Northumberland Zoo is a conservation centre for over 100 species of animals. Bring the family along for exciting encounters with wonderful creatures, great and small.
Kielder Observatory (35 minute drive)
Marvel in awe at the majestic night sky.  
Search for your favourite constellations at the Kielder Observatory, known for its clear, jet-black skies that brighten up the stars. If you’re lucky, you might even see a shooting star or two. 
Northumberland Christmas Fair at Healey Barn (15 minute drive)
Find the most magical Christmas gifts.  
Healey Barn’s Christmas Fair is a great place to pick up Christmas treats of all kinds, from ceramics to a vintage clothes stall. Be sure to bring a basket along to fill with goodies for your loved ones.  
Kielder Winter Wonderland (1 hour 15 minute drive)
This one’s a seasonal highlight for the whole family.  
Kielder Winder Wonderland takes place in the heart of the forest, turning it into a fairytale playground full of festive cheer! Bring the kids along for reindeer interaction, photos with Santa and more Christmassy delights.
